If one looks at the state of South Africa currently, with all the;
- Riots
- Unrest
- Farm murders
- CIT (Cash In Transit)heists
- Shopping centre robberies and
- Civil discontent,
How far is South Africa from a complete Civil and financial meltdown and my becoming a Refugee In My Own Country?
NO ONE CHOOSES TO BE A REFUGEE. Every minute eight people leave everything behind to escape war, persecution or terror.
If conflict threatened your family, what would you do? Stay and risk your lives? Or try to flee, and risk kidnap, rape or torture?
For many refugees, the choice is between the horrific or something worse.
Some economists are saying that SA has passed the point of no return as far as our economy goes and that we are destined for disaster. Take this and all the hate speech by Politicians and community leaders, could we be heading for Civil war? Could I be on my way to Becoming A Refugee In My Own Country?
If one looks at the state of the South African economy, the CIVIL UNREST and the Unemployment rate, The situation can only get worse as unemployed, poor, starving people take o the streets to find food by any means possible, including theft, housebreaking and, yes, even violent attacks on those who have.
As things stand, every South African owes R1.2 million in Sovereign Debt, thanks to the incompetent and Corrupt ANC and it’s Cadre’s Looting the Fiscus for the past 24 years and no food with a dwindling outlook on food security.
COVID 19’s Claim To Fame In South Africa
Prior to the COVID 19 pandemic, South Africa’s economy was in dire straights. The COVID 19 Pandemic has simply laid it bare.
Despite all the billions of Rands poured into the fight against the pandemic, very little has reached the people in need. We have to give credit where credit is due and here we must give credit to the cANCer for the magnificent way in which they have proven their prowess at looting the coffers of State to enrich the Black, Connected Cadres.
Putting a name to it, that would be Black Privilledged Economic Empowerment.
BEE And Unemployment Amongst Minorities
The ANC has openly stated that they will be using the COVID 19 Pandemic to re-align the economy of South Africa. What does this mean? Well, simply put, they will not be providing any assistance to businesses that are not owned by Black South Africans, effectively putting white businesses out of business, by not allowing them to trade during the lockdown and not allowing them access to the emergency aid for businesses (because they are white-owned).
Most of these businesses employ large numbers of black employees and as a result, they have to lay off their employees.
These employees are not high earners and basically live from paycheck to paycheck and immediately, upon being laid off, became dependent on the State and handouts.
For many years, White, Indians and Coloureds were pushed aside in favour of Black empowerment. If a company did not have the correct BEE rating, it could not trade with the State.
To get the rating, companies applying for BEE status have to ensure that their suppliers are BBEE compliant. This had a ripple effect and if your company was not BEE Compliant, you could not trade with the companies that were trading with the State.
Cigarettes And Alcohol A Get Rich Scheme For The Connected
In their infinite wisdom, the State has banned the sale of cigarettes and Alchohol to “Save Lives” during this pandemic. More accurately, to free up 16 ICU beds. All this has effectively done is to drive the market underground, thus costing the State Billions of Rand in Sin Taxes.
Min. Dlamini Zuma, in her infinite wisdom, acknowledges that the illegal trade in cigarettes will make up for the economic losses of cigarette traders. So my question is if they are aware that the illicit trade in these goods is flourishings, why do they ban the Legitimate products and forfeit all that sin tax?
They are prepared to forfeit 3 million jobs (in the first three months of the lockdown alone) to free up 16 ICU beds. What about the thousands that are dying because they are not getting treated for their chronic diseases and who are dying because they cannot get treatment for other serious conditions? I am sure it is more than 16 people!
Are Many Of Us Not Already Refugees?
A refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group. Most likely, they cannot return home or are afraid to do so. War and ethnic, tribal and religious violence are leading causes of refugees fleeing their countries.
There are over 400 000 whites living in squatter camps around South Africa and that number is set to skyrocket with all the businesses closing as a result of the COVID 19 and the ANC’s policy of only helping black businesses recover.
Thousands of people have recently lost or are about to lose their jobs in the not-too-distant future. If we cannot be gainfully employed because we are white and we cannot get assistance from the State, how are we supposed to survive? Are we not already economic refugees?
What about the:
- Home invasions
- Farm murders
- Torture and murder of white farmers(Boers)
- Vehicle hijackings
- Armed robberies
- Land Invasions
- Looting of shops and other businesses
- Targeting of Whites in illegal arrests and incarceration (see video below)
- Huge increase in Whites that have become destitute and have had to seek refuge in Squatter camps.
So I ask again, “Are we not already refugees in our own country?
How Do I Survive Becoming A Refugee In My Own Country?
Some fled with no warning at all. Others had weeks or months to anxiously weigh their options – until mounting danger finally forced them to leave their homes behind.
In those moments, after you get the message on WhatsApp or cell, there’s no time to thoughtfully pack a suitcase and get your things in order. things like:-
- Where will you be when you get the call that they are looting, burning stealing and killing in or around your town?
- where is your spouse?
- Who is Collecting your kids and parents?
- where are you meeting?
- who is packing food, clothes and water?
- Who is drawing cash (if you have any available)?
- Where are you going?
- What route are you following?
and all those questions that you thought the preppers are mad to consider!
Life for every refugee, whether formerly rich or poor, will be reduced to a few square metres of shelter wherever you can find it, If you survive to reach relative safety and if you know where it is to find it.
To Survive you need to be prepared. You need to know if Are You Bugging In or Bugging Out? You must have your Bug Out Bags ready and accessible. You must have a final destination and your route planned. You must know where to meet up with your family and your group. You must keep your vehicle well maintained. Extra fuel must be available and sufficient chronic meds must be provided for.
Are You Just Fleeing Or Following An Escape Plan
Living in a refugee camp is difficult. There’s no food, no water, no toilet and no place to bathe. You won’t be able to afford three meals a day in a refugee camp. If you are going to just flee the havoc, you will be fleeing into a refugee camp, in all probability. My best advice is to prep!
Now I hear a lot of you screaming ” I am not one of those Tinfoil Hat Freaks”. Well, did you have to rush out and panic buy groceries when the COVID 10 Lockdown was announced? I can assure you that there was no panic amongst the “Prepper” groups.
This was what they were prepping for. An emergency. Not specifically for COVID, but for any possible emergency that might befall them.
Prepping is a type of insurance. You have;
- Household insurance,
- Medical aid
- car insurance.
Prepping is just a form of insurance that you have against the unexpected, against that you cannot purchase insurance for, so you self-insure. It beats a refugee camp hands down.
So You Have Decided To Self Insure – Its Called Prepping
When You have to flee your home for safety….you are, at that point, a refugee! This is what I would do to prepare for Becoming a Refugee In My Own Country;
- Decide whether to go it alone or join a group
- determine the destination
- Plan what I need to get to that destination
- prepare provisions to get me there.
Once I am there I will need to survive. So I will need to have a plan for this eventuality as well. I need to provide for the next phase of my insurance plan. I will need to provide for the following;
- Long term Water
- Shelter
- Food 2-3 months
- Seed to grow food for a longer stay
- tools
- Cooking utensils
- Sowing kit for making and repairing clothes
- Reading Material to teach children ( a Bible was used in the old days)
- Writing material
- A radio for news
There is a lot of planning needed for this phase and you can download the workbook to help with this planning here
Long Term Survival As A Refugee
I believe that if and when the SHTF it will last a lot longer than we would like and we need to be prepared for that. It will be great if other countries, like the USA, Britain or Germany stepped in to help but it is unlikely in the short term. It will probably take a year or more for anyone to step up to help us if they step up.
In the interim, we must survive but our stores will be running out and we will have to resort to the black market. Most of us will not have money left and it will probably be worthless by then unless we have $. Trading will be the new commerce so what will you pack for trade?
The Masses Must Survive So They Trade How?
What Should You Collect For Trading In the Future
- Seed
- Food
- Livestock (Chickens, Rabbits etc.)
- Lighters & Matches
- Medicines
- Batteries
- Clothes
- Tools
- Vehicle Spares
- Fuel
- Ammunition
- Blankets
- Needle and thread
- Wool
- Material
- Soap
- Smokes
- Alcohol
- Paper
These are but a few of the things you could use for trade if you had room to take them with you.
Skills Will Be The New Currency
Trade goods will also run out but if you had skills, such as:
- soap making,
- sewing,
- gardening,
- brewing beer,
- building cabins,
- making cages, traps and the like,
you will have something to trade.
What about teaching children, teaching adults new skills? One will need to keep an open mind and look for opportunities. avoid the most common problem in refugee camps. Keep your mind and hands busy.
Men, women and children while away long hours of unemployed boredom sitting on the ground inside or outside their shelters. Violence, especially against women and girls, is high, as are child marriage and child labour.
A Closing Thought
Nobody wants a civil war, disaster or pandemic but, we have no or very little control over them. We can also not say that we will not participate. We will have as much choice about civil war or natural disasters as we had about COVID-19. We will be affected, whether we believe it will happen or not. If it happens, WE WILL BE AFFECTED, so why not prep for it, as an insurance policy?
It would be awesome if, in 5 years time, we sit around a braai and laugh at how we prepped for disaster, and nothing has happened in those 5 years.
